Global Settings

Global Settings Tab

The Global Settings tab contains core configuration options for the RICS mod, including debugging, command prefixes, and quick status monitoring.

📊 Debug & Logging

Enable Debug Logging

  • Purpose: Enables detailed logging for troubleshooting mod issues
  • Default: Disabled
  • When to enable: Only when experiencing problems or during development
  • Effect: Generates extensive log files in RimWorld's debug output

Log All Chat Messages

  • Purpose: Records all chat messages from connected platforms
  • Default: Enabled
  • Use Case: Useful for moderation, analytics, or debugging chat interactions
  • Storage: Messages are saved in mod log files

Message Cooldown

  • Purpose: Prevents command spam by setting minimum time between user commands
  • Default: 1 second
  • Range: 1-10 seconds
  • Recommendation: 1-3 seconds for active streams, higher for very busy chats

📈 Quick Status

Connection Status

  • Twitch: Shows current connection state (Connected/Disconnected)
  • YouTube: Shows current connection state (Connected/Disconnected)
  • Purpose: At-a-glance view of platform connectivity
  • Updates: Real-time status from active connections

⌨️ Command Prefixes

Command Prefix

  • Purpose: The character that triggers chat commands
  • Default: !
  • Examples:
    • !buy pistol (default)
    • #buy pistol (if changed to #)
  • Restrictions:
    • Cannot start with: / . \\
    • Cannot contain spaces
    • Single character recommended

Purchase Prefix

  • Purpose: Alternative shortcut for buy commands
  • Default: $
  • Examples:
    • $pistol instead of !buy pistol
    • $medicine instead of !buy medicine
  • Same restrictions as Command Prefix

⚙️ Technical Details

Access Location

  • Main Menu: Mod Settings → Configure RICS → Global Tab
  • In-Game: Options → Mod Settings → RICS → Global Tab

Settings Persistence

  • Per Save Game: Settings are saved with each colony
  • Global Defaults: New colonies use mod defaults
  • Backup: Settings included in save file backups

💡 Recommended Configuration

For New Users

  • Debug Logging: Disabled
  • Log Messages: Enabled
  • Message Cooldown: 2 seconds
  • Command Prefix: !
  • Purchase Prefix: $

For Large Streams

  • Debug Logging: Disabled
  • Log Messages: Disabled (for performance)
  • Message Cooldown: 3-5 seconds
  • Command Prefix: !
  • Purchase Prefix: $ (encouraged to reduce !buy spam)
