💡 What:
- Replaced `$(basename "$path")` with native bash parameter expansion `${path##*/}`.
- Moved `shopt` configuration out of recursive `generate_tree` function.
🎯 Why:
- `basename` forks a new process for every file/directory, which is very slow in loops.
- `generate_tree` recursively called `$(shopt -p ...)` in subshells, adding significant overhead for deep trees.
📊 Impact:
- Reduces benchmark time from ~28s to ~20s (~28% faster) on a test set of ~1000 files.
- Reduces system calls and forks significantly.
🔬 Measurement:
- Verified with `benchmark.sh` (created during dev) measuring execution time on nested directories.
- Verified functionality with `test/test_basic.sh`.
