I identified that in the scenario described in the bug (reloading a project that is inside a solution folder) the file extension can be null leading to an exception when we call extension.EndsWith hence adding the null check on extension. Note: in all cases where GetLanguageFromExtension gets called the caller is handling a null result - this should mean that we don't end up making a bigger issue elsewhere.
