- entity
- A case-sensitive sequence of ASCII letters, digits, or both, representing a special character in (X/HT)ML.
Examples:&,&,⁰,⁰
Since version 1.4.0, HTML Tag can decode most of the entities in the HTML Living Standard (sometimes called “HTML 5”).
- (Unicode) escape character
- A case-insensitive sequence of hexadecimal digits, prefixed by one or more ASCII letters, representing a Unicode character.
Examples:\u2026,U+2014
By default, HTML Tag decodes escape characters in the format\u0000. Since version 1.4.2, the\uprefix can be customized by the user.
- character escaping
- In the context of regular expressions, “escaping” or “quoting” is a special syntax to indicate that a character represents itself, usually by prefixing the character with a backslash (

- caret
- The visual indicator of the text insertion point in the editing window.
