Have you ever had to do a PowerPoint or a presentation where you needed an image, but it had a horrible background? You probably went on Google and typed "image background removal," and yes, a lot of sites are there, they work great, but wait you have to first decide which site, then you probably get flash-banged by lots of ads, and when you can finally edit your image, WAIT, login! Don’t want to login? You can only download it in 240p.

I hated that. It takes too long, and I don’t want to lose quality. I wanted something quick, easy to reach, always ready when I needed it the most. Enter RemoveThatBG!, a standalone app that lives rent-free in your top bar menu on your Mac, you (and your CPU/RAM) won’t even notice it’s there! But when you need it, it’s ready for action, always waiting for you.

Just open it and drag and drop (or paste) any image, even the infamous WebP! From anywhere, Finder, Google, WhatsApp...wait just a few seconds and BOOM! In just a couple of little seconds, your image will be ready. From now on, it’s pretty easy: you can copy or drag it wherever you want. Have fun!!

Model Selection: The default model is u2netp.onnx (the lightest, fastest to download, and works offline immediately). However, it is not the best in terms of background removal quality. For best results, switch to isnet-general-use in Settings → Model Tab. This model offers superior performance and accuracy, especially for complex images. Choose from a range of state-of-the-art models for portraits, anime, high-res, and more. All models are stored locally for fast, offline use.

RemoveThatBG! offers a beautiful, incredibly good looking intuitive settings page to tailor the app to your workflow:

📦 Model Tab

• Default Model: u2netp.onnx is selected by default for instant, lightweight performance. For higher quality, switch to isnet-general-use.
• Model Selection: Pick from a curated list of background removal models, each optimized for different scenarios (general, human, anime, high-res, etc.).
• Model Status: Instantly see if a model is downloaded and ready to use. Models are stored in '/Users/<USER_NAME>/Library/Application Support/RemoveThatBG/models' for offline performance. Note to the Library foleder is a hidden folder, use cmd+shift+. to find it.
• Speed & Performance: The first use of a new model downloads it automatically. Subsequent uses are much faster. Swift–Python integration is actively optimized for speed.
• Descriptions: Each model includes a detailed description to help you choose the best fit for your needs.

Installation

1. Download: Get the latest release of RemoveThatBG!
2. Install: Drag the app into your Applications folder.
3. Launch: Click the RemoveThatBG! icon in your Mac’s top bar.

Usage

1. Click the menu bar icon to open RemoveThatBG!.
2. Drag and drop or paste your image into the app window.
3. Wait a few seconds while the background is removed.
4. Copy or drag the processed image wherever you need it.

! NEW (sad) UPDATE !

There a 2 main branches:

• main: This is the original app, built with a Python backend and using rembg. It supports multiple specialized local models and can run fully offline. Truly amazing, created by my own original mind. (this version is only avaible here on github in the releases section)

• appleAPI: This is the App Store friendly version. It can be sandboxed, doesn’t rely on a Python backend, and instead uses Apple’s official API. I know, It's sadder, less customizable and feature-rich, kinda mainstream, but hey i can sell it on the App Store (please support me) => DOWLOAD HERE FROM APPSTORE!!
