CLI Expense Tracker

A terminal based CLI expense tracker built with Python and Typer. You can log all your expenses and auto-categorise them with a few commands in the terminal. The CLI also provides a concise summary of expenses which can be filtered by month and year.

# '--name' is used when the DB_NAME environment variable is not set

Installation

Requirements

• Python 3.9+
• Pip

Setup

# Clone repository
git clone https://github.com/gerald-tetteh/expense-tracker-cli.git
cd expense_tracker-cli

# Setup virtual environment (optional)
python -m venv .venv
source .venv/bin/activate

# Install dependencies
python -m pip install -r requirements.txt

# Before running you can setup the 'DB_NAME' or using the '--name' option before the command
export DB_NAME=expenses
python -m expense_tracker.main --name <db-name> <command>
