Advanced Runtime Configuration

Some default values can be altered at runtime using environment variables or local configuration options. This is a list of those values.

General

• NINJA_FILL_DEM_NO_DATA: Attempt to fill no data values without checking with the user. This will overwrite your input DEM.
• CPL_DEBUG: Turn on additional output useful for debugging. For example, CPL_DEBUG = NINJAFOAM will turn on messages related to the conservation of mass and momentum solver.
• WINDNINJA_DATA : Specify the Windninja data path.
• CUSTOM_SRTM_API_KEY : Set a custom OpenTopography API key for SRTM downloads.

CPL_DEBUG Options

• STATION_FETCH : Debugging information related to fetching weather station data, weather station interpolation and point Initialization.
• NINJA : Solver Related Debugging information and messages.
• WINDNINJA : General Debugging information and messages.
• STABILITY : Messages related to the atmospheric stability model.
• DUST : Dust messages.
• NINJAFOAM : messages related to the conservation of mass and momentum solver.
• NOMADS : messages related to weather model fetching.
• WX_MODEL_INITIALIZATION : Messages related to weather model initialization.
• MOBILE_APP : Messages related to the mobile app.
• GTIFF : Messages related to writing a GeoTIFF

Conservation of Mass and Momentum Solver

• NINJAFOAM_ITERATIONS: Specify the number of solver iterations.
• NINJAFOAM_MESH_COUNT: Specify the mesh count.
• NINJAFOAM_USE_GDALGRID : If set to YES Sample a point cloud and create a 2-band GDALDataset of U and V values, use function SampleCloudGrid(), else: use function SampleCloud()
• NINJAFOAM_USE_SURFACE_TRANSFORM_POINTS : If set to YES, will not use NinjaElevationToStl to create the output surface.
• NINJAFOAM_KEEP_ALL_TIMESTEPS : If set to TRUE, will keep OpenFOAM case files for all timesteps of a multi-timestep simulation.
• WRITE_TURBULENCE: If set to TRUE, will write turbulence output to KMZ.

Point Initialization

• NINJA_POINT_MATCH_OUT_RELAX: Adjust the outer loop relaxation for a point initialization run.

• NINJA_POINT_MAX_MATCH_ITERS: Maximum outer 'loops' to try to solve a point initialization.

• NINJA_POINT_INV_DIST_WEIGHT: Inverse distance weighting used for point initialization, 1.0 -> inverse distance, 2.0 -> inversed distance squared, etc.

• WRITE_CSV : Writes an interpolated weather station csv.

• FETCH_METADATA : Fetch Weather Station Metadata from the Mesonet API.

• CHANGE_DATE_TIME : Change the date and time for a single step simulation.

• CUSTOM_API_KEY : Specify a custom api token for fetching weather stations. Built in token restrictions do not apply to custom keys.

Google Maps API

• ENABLE_QWEBINSPECTOR: Enable the QWebInspector for debugging the Google Maps widget.

DEM Downloader

• SURF_FETCH_EXTRACT_BLOCK_SIZE : Extract the Block Size

Landfire client

• LCP_DOWNLOAD_WAIT: Time in seconds between attempts to contact the landfire server.
• LCP_DOWNLOAD_TRIES: The number of times to try downloading the lcp from landfire before quitting. Note that LCP_DOWNLOAD_WAIT * LCP_DOWNLOAD_TRIES = total timeout for lcp.
• LCP_KEEP_ARCHIVE: don't delete the downloaded lcp zip archive if it's set to ON.

Weather Model initialization

NCAR THREDDS Client

• NINJA_WX_KEEP_FORECAST: don't delete the downloaded forecast file if it's set to ON (only for thredds/ncar models).
• NINJA_DISABLE_THREDDS_UPDATE: don't try to download thredds update file on start up if it's set to ON. Note that this is completely disabled if DISABLE_THREDDS_UPDATE is set to ON in cmake.

NOMADS Client

• NOMADS_THREAD_COUNT number of threads to use to download files from nomads(default: 4). You can get good speed up from a ratio of 1:1 threads per file to 1:4.
• NOMADS_MAX_FCST_REWIND number of forecast runs to go back in time to try and get a full forecast(default: 2).
• NOMADS_VSI_BLOCK_SIZE If NOMADS_USE_VSI_READ is set to ON in cmake, this is the chunk size that is read in each download(default: 512).
• NOMADS_HTTP_TIMEOUT The timeout in seconds for a request (default 20)

GDAL

• A number of GDAL Configuration options are used in WindNinja, more information on these options is available here.

Miscellaneous

• GTIFF_DIRECT_IO :
• CPL_VSIL_CURL_ALLOWED_EXTENSIONS : Set the allowed exentsions for CURL.
• LIBKML_USE_DOC.KML : If TRUE create a root doc.kml
• CPL_TMPDIR : Force the Temporary working directory to a specific location (see line ~380 in NinjaArmy.cpp)
• CPLTMPDIR : Force the Temporary working directory to a specific location
• TEMP : Force the Temporary working directory to a specific location
• VSI_CACHE : Disable VSI caching, this breaks nomads downloader if it's on (default is false)
• MPI_BUFFER_SIZE : Change the MPI Buffer size
• NINJA_DISABLE_CALL_HOME : Disable call home.
