a real-time oracle consuming multiple Pyth price feeds (BTC, ETH, SOL, HYPE), batching updates via updatePriceFeeds, and computing funding rates on-chain with sub-second latency. This eliminated 8-hour delays by streaming live prices through Hermes → adapter contracts → HIP-3 markets, enabling tradable funding rate derivatives.

BasisX - Most Innovative Use of Pyth Price Feeds on Hyperliquid

Project: BasisX - HIP-3 Funding Rate Perpetual

Innovation: Real-time Funding Rate Oracle using Pyth Network for HIP-3 Markets

📋 Executive Summary

BasisX transforms Hyperliquid funding rates into a tradable perpetual market using real-time Pyth Price Feeds instead of traditional 8-hour manual oracle updates. Our innovation creates a sub-second funding rate calculation system that tracks multiple asset price movements simultaneously to generate accurate funding rates for HIP-3 perpetual markets.

🚀 What We Built

Core Innovation: Real-Time Funding Rate Oracle

We built a sophisticated oracle system that:

  • Consumes multiple Pyth price feeds (BTC, ETH, SOL, HYPE) simultaneously
  • Calculates funding rates in real-time based on price momentum and volatility
  • Pushes updates to HIP-3 markets with sub-second latency
  • Eliminates the 8-hour oracle delay that exists in traditional perpetual markets

Technical Architecture

🔧 Specific Pyth Features Implemented

1. Pull Method Implementation

// PythOracleAdapter.sol - Lines 89-120
function updatePriceFeeds(
    bytes[] calldata priceUpdateData,
    bytes32[] calldata feedIds
) external payable whenNotPaused {
    // Update Pyth price feeds
    uint256 fee = pyth.getUpdateFee(priceUpdateData);
    pyth.updatePriceFeeds{value: fee}(priceUpdateData);

    // Process each feed and calculate funding rates
    for (uint256 i = 0; i < feedIds.length; i++) {
        _updateFundingRate(feedIds[i]);
    }
}

2. Multi-Feed Price Consumption

// Real-time price fetching from multiple Pyth feeds
function _updateFundingRate(bytes32 feedId) internal {
    PythStructs.Price memory pythPrice = pyth.getPrice(feedId);

    // Convert Pyth price format to our format
    uint256 currentPrice = _convertPythPrice(pythPrice);

    // Calculate funding rate based on price movement
    int256 fundingRate = _calculateFundingRate(symbol, currentPrice, lastPrice);

    // Update cumulative funding
    fundingData.cumulativeFunding += uint256(fundingRate > 0 ? fundingRate : -fundingRate);
}

3. Hermes Integration

// Frontend integration with Hermes API
const pythConnection = new PythHttpClient("https://hermes.pyth.network");

async function fetchPriceUpdates() {
    const priceIds = [
        "0xe62df6c8b4a85fe1a67db44dc12de5db330f7ac66b72dc658afedf0f4a415b43", // BTC/USD
        "0xff61491a931112ddf1bd8147cd1b641375f79f5825126d665480874634fd0ace", // ETH/USD
        "0xef0d8b6fda2ceba41da15d4095d1da392a0d2f8ed0c6c7bc0f4cfac8c280b56d", // SOL/USD
        "0x0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001"  // HYPE/USD (custom)
    ];

    const priceUpdateData = await pythConnection.getPriceFeedsUpdateData(priceIds);
    return priceUpdateData;
}

💡 Innovation Highlights

3. Mathematical Funding Rate Algorithm

function _calculateFundingRate(
    string memory symbol,
    uint256 currentPrice,
    uint256 lastPrice
) internal view returns (int256) {
    if (lastPrice == 0) return 0;

    // Calculate price change percentage
    int256 priceChange = int256(currentPrice) - int256(lastPrice);
    int256 priceChangePercent = (priceChange * 10000) / int256(lastPrice);

    // Apply volatility multiplier based on time elapsed
    uint256 timeElapsed = block.timestamp - fundingData[symbol].lastUpdateTime;
    int256 volatilityMultiplier = int256(timeElapsed * 100 / 3600); // Per hour basis

    // Calculate funding rate (basis points)
    return (priceChangePercent * volatilityMultiplier) / 100;
}

4. HIP-3 Market Integration

  • Push Method: Automated oracle updates to HIP-3 markets
  • Custom Scheduler: Built-in timing mechanism for market updates
