FAQ

Q: What is this? How do I use it?

A: Simply run DragWheel.exe in the background while you run Falcon BMS. Once in flight, click-and-drag (up and down) to adjust your throttle -- without taking hands off mouse and joystick.

  • In clickable-pit mode => move the mouse cursor away from any cockpit switches, then left-click and drag.
  • In mouselook-mode => drag holding both buttons (left and right) to avoid moving your head while moving the throttle.

Q: This interferes with dragging in the 2D map screen.. is there a hotkey to turn it off/on?

  • Not currently, but you can stop/restart DragWheel.exe at any time. Waiting until making the jump to 3D world, before starting DragWheel, is probably smart.

Q: How do you avoid clicking on random switches in the cockpit?

  • If you have a five-button mouse, you can assign one of the extended buttons (see DragWheel.exe.config) to avoid any possibility of accidentally clicking a cockpit switch, or interfering with work in the 2D map screen.

Q: Will it affect performance? How much CPU does this consume?

A: DragWheel.exe uses about 2 seconds of CPU time, per CPU-hour of flight time. (In percentage terms, about 0.075% of the total CPU usage of FalconBMS.exe.)

Q: How do the mouse sensitivity settings in Windows (or BMS) affect DragWheel?

A: They don't -- the motion of the throttle in response to mouse movement is determined solely by the MouseSensitivity setting in DragWheel.exe.config, your mouse hardware DPI, and the physical distance you drag the mouse. You may adjust your BMS mouselook sensitivity (on the in-app settings page) and the clickable-cockpit mouse cursor speed (the g_fMouseSensitivity setting in the 'falcon bms.cfg' file) however you like, independent of DragWheel.

Q: Can I swap left and right buttons?

A: DragWheel (and BMS) both support the SM_SWAPBUTTON user preference. If you have mouse buttons swapped, in Windows desktop control panel, then button #0 is the right-button and button #1 is the left-button.
