Competition Overview

Overview

  • The goal of the competition is to have your submarine complete certain tasks entirely autonomously for points.
    • Runs are done solo, in a pool at the competition site, with the position of game elements slightly randomized to test the robustness of the autonomous routines.
    • Generally, tasks tend to be very similar between years, so previous handbooks are still relevant.
  • View the 2023 Handbook here.

Example: 2023 & Tasks Completed

  • Coin Flip - depending on how a coin is flipped, orient the sub either facing towards the gate or facing 90 degrees away from the gate.
  • Gate - pass through a gate completely. The gate is shaped like three parallel vertical sticks in a line, connected by strings from which two markers (signs with symbols from the Stargate) hang.
  • Style Points - after passing through the gate, the submarine can spin in an area shortly beyond the gate for style points.
    • For every 90 degrees spun in roll/pitch, 200 points
    • For every 90 degrees spun in yaw, 100 points
    • Capped at 800 points
    • Our team chose to spin 720 degrees yaw
