Oh whoops. Didn't see this was in Draft form. Welp, it's pre-approved! 😄 |

Bring back aerosol-affected radiance assimilation to GSI.
This has been tested and it's zero-diff when not used. Works as expected for say, IASI when setting iaero = 1 for channels in the range of 8.26-15.5 micros (645 - 1210 cm^-1).
There are some puzzles, though:
1 - triggering some of AIRS channels in the range of 3-5 and 8-13 microns (indexes 435-1285; and 1865-2377) don't seem to change the results.
2 - to fully exercise this properly, the user has to carefully trigger the radiance channels (IR) affected by aerosols, explicitly in satinfo.
3 - a corresponding feature has been added to GEOS-IT v5.29.4.7 and is being the aerosol affected feature is being tested on volcanic eruption case. That work should help us determine a more complete set of channel-specific trigggers for variious IR instruments: AIRS, AVHRR, SEVIRI and HIRS - beyond the IASI channels already included in the changes here.
