CrowdUp Features Guide

Learn how to use every feature of CrowdUp to get the most out of the platform.

Creating Posts

Posts are the core of CrowdUp. Share your ideas, questions, updates, and discussions with the community.

Post Types

Ideas — Suggest new concepts, improvements, or innovations

  • Use for: Brainstorming, feature suggestions, new initiatives
  • Example: "We should have a community mentorship program"

Questions — Ask the community for advice, knowledge, or help

  • Use for: Getting help, learning from others, seeking recommendations
  • Example: "What's the best way to get started with programming?"

Updates — Share progress, announcements, or news

  • Use for: Project progress, milestones, announcements
  • Example: "Just launched our new feature!"

Discussions — Start conversations about topics you care about

  • Use for: Deep dives, debates, explorations
  • Example: "What makes a great team culture?"

Resources — Share useful links, articles, tools, or information

  • Use for: Helpful references, tools, knowledge bases
  • Example: "Collection of free design resources"

How to Create a Post

  1. Click "Create Post" button (top of page or navigation)
  2. Choose post type (Ideas, Questions, Updates, Discussions, or Resources)
  3. Fill in details:
    • Title — Catchy, clear headline (up to 200 characters)
    • Description — Main content of your post
      • Use markdown for formatting (bold, italics, lists, links)
      • Keep it clear and well-organized
    • Category — Select the most relevant category
    • Tags — Add tags for better discoverability (optional)
      • Use hashtags like #innovation, #feedback, #community
      • Helps others find related posts
  4. Add media (optional)
    • Upload images or files to illustrate your point
    • Makes posts more engaging and visual
  5. Preview — Check how your post looks
  6. Publish — Share with the community

Editing Your Posts

  • Click the three dots (⋯) on your post
  • Select Edit
  • Make changes to title, description, category, or tags
  • Click Save

Deleting Your Posts

  • Click the three dots (⋯) on your post
  • Select Delete
  • Confirm deletion

Note: Once deleted, a post cannot be recovered.


Voting & Engagement

Voting is how CrowdUp's community determines what's important and drives engagement.

How Voting Works

Upvote (👍 or ⬆️)

  • Click when you agree, find valuable, or want to boost visibility
  • Signals importance and quality
  • Helps surface great content

Downvote (👎 or ⬇️)

  • Click when content is unhelpful, misleading, or off-topic
  • Helps community moderate naturally
  • Doesn't delete content

Voting Impact

  • Your votes: Help determine post visibility on the feed
  • Post ranking: Posts with more upvotes rank higher
  • Trending: Posts with rapid engagement become "trending"
  • Reputation: Active voters build community trust

Best Practices

Vote for:

  • Thoughtful, well-written posts
  • Helpful answers and resources
  • Posts that spark meaningful discussion
  • Content you'd like to see more of

Don't vote based on:

  • Disagreement (use comments instead)
  • Personal dislike of the author
  • Not reading the full post

Commenting

Comments let you engage directly with posts and other commenters.

How to Comment

  1. Click the comment icon on a post
  2. Type your comment in the text box
  3. Add formatting (optional)
    • Bold: **text**
    • Italics: *text*
    • Links: [text](url)
    • Lists: Use - or numbers
  4. Submit — Click Send or Post
  5. Your comment appears immediately

Comment Etiquette

Good comments:

  • Add new information or perspective
  • Ask clarifying questions
  • Provide constructive feedback
  • Are respectful and kind

Avoid:

  • Off-topic tangents
  • Personal attacks or rudeness
  • Spam or self-promotion
  • Repeating what others said

Voting on Comments

Just like posts, you can upvote and downvote comments:

  • Upvote helpful, insightful comments
  • Downvote spam, rude, or off-topic comments

User Profiles

Every user has a profile showcasing their contributions and activity.

What's on a Profile?

  • Display name — How others see you
  • Bio — Short description about yourself
  • Profile picture — Your avatar
  • Reputation score — Community recognition (upvotes, contributions)
  • Posts — All posts you've published
  • Comments — All comments you've made
  • Followers/Following — Your network
  • Join date — When you created your account

Viewing Someone's Profile

  1. Click on any username in the feed
  2. See their profile, posts, and activity
  3. Click Follow to stay updated with their posts

Editing Your Profile

  1. Click your profile icon (top right)
  2. Select SettingsProfile
  3. Edit:
    • Display name
    • Bio
    • Profile picture
    • Social links (optional)
  4. Click Save

Privacy Options

Control who can see your profile:

  • Public — Anyone can view your profile
  • Private — Only people you follow can see details
  • See Settings & Privacy for more

Following Users

Build your network by following users whose content interests you.

How to Follow

  1. Visit a user's profile
  2. Click the Follow button
  3. You're now following them!

What Happens When You Follow

  • Their posts appear in your personalized feed
  • You see their activity in real-time
  • You can message them directly
  • They may follow you back

Unfollowing

  • Go to user's profile
  • Click FollowingUnfollow
  • You'll no longer see their posts in your feed

Your Followers

  • Go to your profile
  • Click Followers to see who follows you
  • Click Following to see who you follow

Messaging

Send direct messages to other users for private conversations.

Starting a Conversation

  1. Click on a user's profile
  2. Click Message button
  3. Type your message
  4. Click Send

Messaging Features

  • One-to-one conversations — Private messages with individual users
  • Real-time updates — See when people are typing
  • Read receipts — Know when messages are read
  • Conversation history — View all past messages
  • Block users — Stop receiving messages from someone

Accessing Your Messages

  1. Click the Messages icon (top navigation)
  2. See all your conversations
  3. Click a conversation to open it
  4. Reply to continue the conversation

Message Etiquette

Good messages:

  • Are respectful and kind
  • Get straight to the point
  • Are relevant to the other person's work/interests

Avoid:

  • Spam or unsolicited promotion
  • Personal attacks or rudeness
  • Repeated messages if ignored
  • Sharing private information

Settings & Privacy

Control your CrowdUp experience with granular settings.

Account Settings

Access via: ProfileSettingsAccount

  • Email — Update your email address
  • Password — Change your password
  • Username — Change your display username
  • Delete account — Permanently remove your account

Privacy Settings

Access via: ProfileSettingsPrivacy

  • Profile visibility
    • Public: Anyone can view
    • Private: Only followers can view
  • Messages
    • Who can message you (Everyone, Followers only, Nobody)
  • Show activity
    • Display when you're online
    • Show your activity timeline

Notification Settings

Access via: ProfileSettingsNotifications

  • Posts & comments
    • Get notified when someone comments on your post
    • Get notified when someone upvotes your post
  • Messaging
    • Get notified of new messages
    • Sound/email notifications
  • Follows
    • Get notified when someone follows you
  • Email frequency
    • Receive daily/weekly digests or disable entirely

Preferences

Access via: ProfileSettingsPreferences

  • Theme — Light mode, dark mode, or system default
  • Language — Select your preferred language
  • Feed algorithm
    • Trending: Popular posts first
    • Recent: Newest posts first
    • Personalized: Posts from who you follow

Apps & Company Pages

Discover and connect with apps and companies in the CrowdUp ecosystem.

Viewing Apps

  1. Navigate to Apps section
  2. Browse available apps by category
  3. Click an app to see:
    • Description and purpose
    • Integration status
    • Reviews and ratings
    • How to use it with CrowdUp

Viewing Companies

  1. Navigate to Companies section
  2. Browse companies by industry
  3. Click a company to see:
    • Company profile
    • Products/services
    • Website and contact
    • Posts and updates from that company
    • Jobs and opportunities

Following Apps/Companies

  • Click Follow on an app or company page
  • See their posts in your feed
  • Receive updates about new releases or announcements

Recommendations

CrowdUp algorithm learns your interests:

  • Suggests relevant apps to your activity
  • Recommends companies you might find interesting
  • Shows jobs or products aligned with your profile

Leaderboard & Reputation

Track community recognition and see who the top contributors are.

Your Reputation Score

Your reputation grows through:

  • Upvotes — Community validation of your content
  • Comments — Meaningful engagement
  • Posts — Sharing valuable ideas
  • Helpful answers — Community recognizes helpfulness
  • Consistent activity — Regular, quality contributions

Viewing the Leaderboard

  1. Click Leaderboard in navigation
  2. See top contributors by:
    • Reputation — Highest reputation scores
    • Recent activity — Most active this week
    • Posts — Most posts created
    • Trending — Rising stars

Badges & Recognition

Community members can earn badges for:

  • First post — Posted your first idea
  • Top contributor — High reputation score
  • Helpful expert — Answers questions well
  • Community leader — Strong network and engagement
  • Special achievements in various categories

Using Reputation Wisely

Your reputation reflects community trust:

  • Use it to build credibility
  • Help others confidently
  • Become a recognized expert
  • Access to special features or roles (if applicable)

Feed & Discovery

The feed is your window into the CrowdUp community.

Your Personal Feed

What you see:

  • Posts from users you follow
  • Trending posts in your interests
  • Posts in categories you follow
  • Recommended posts based on your activity

Feed Sorting Options

  1. Trending — Posts gaining momentum
  2. Recent — Newest posts first
  3. Top — Highest-voted posts (all time or this week)
  4. Following — Only posts from who you follow
  5. Personalized — Algorithm picks best for you (default)

Discovering New Content

Browse categories:

  • Click a category to see all posts in that category
  • Follow categories to see more in your feed

Search:

  • Use the search bar to find posts by keywords
  • Filter by post type, category, or date

Explore trending:

  • See what's trending in the community
  • Find emerging discussions

Follow users & apps:

  • When you follow someone, their posts appear in your feed
  • When you follow apps/companies, see their updates

Customizing Your Feed

  1. Go to SettingsPreferences
  2. Choose feed algorithm:
    • Trending
    • Recent
    • Personalized
  3. Choose categories to follow
  4. Follow/unfollow users and apps

Tips for Success

Building Your Presence

  1. Create quality posts — Clear, valuable content
  2. Engage authentically — Comment thoughtfully
  3. Follow relevant people — Build a network
  4. Respond to comments — Engage in conversations
  5. Be consistent — Regular activity builds reputation

Getting Noticed

  • Post about topics you care about (passion shows!)
  • Ask thoughtful questions
  • Provide helpful answers
  • Create posts that start conversations
  • Use relevant categories and tags

Community Contribution

  • Upvote content you find valuable
  • Leave constructive comments
  • Help new members
  • Report inappropriate content
