Virtual Reality History Museum by Biffed Reality Group members: Chris Morikawa, Tobin Dekorne, Shrey Patel, Brian DeJesus
The game starts off in a supposedly, ordinary history museum. This museum, however, is not just any ordinary museum. In this VR world, you can explore and play/interact with the character’s worlds. There is no objective/end goal of the game. This game is more of a walk around/ interact/ have fun game. In the game you have three levels to try out, Egyptian, Medieval and Japan. In the Egyptian world, you are given a sword and you can hit the mummies and they will die, and also, if you want to, find a hidden treasure on the map. In the Medieval world, you are given a bow and arrow and shoot at targets on top of a tower. In the Japan world, you can use the ninja stars and throw it at the targets, and/or go over to the targets near the red buildings and punch them till you are tired.
The purpose of the game is to be adventurous and to explore different times and worlds that are offered in the museum. You can travel to any world level. In certain cases, you must find a way into a certain world. By going into each world they are given a certain scene and each one is different from each other. This was all of our first time using Virtual Reality and also most of the tutorials while looking up were Vive instead of Oculus. The tough part was trying to translate the Vive stuff from the tutorial to make it work with the Oculus. Overall, this game was a lot of fun to work on and can be in pain in the butt. If I were to work on a Virtual Reality project again, I believe all of us would do it again in a heartbeat. Also to the people, who say that virtual reality is a fad or going away, you need to try it out yourself.
If you are planning on using the game, please make sure your computer is able to run Oculus Rift. If you want to check if your computer is compatible with Oculus Rift, use the Oculus Rift’s website tool(towards the bottom) to check your computer https://www.oculus.com/rift/#oui-csl-rift-games=robo-recall Do not worry there are no virus from it.
To run the game, you can download the entire git to your computer, and to play the game use the executable Version 1.2 (Our latest and greatest version of the game).
In the Museum level, you can teleport around the floor. In order to teleport around the world, you see the blue circle on the ground. While seeing the blue circle, you can teleport to the spot by pressing the A button (Button. One) on the Oculus Controller (Right Controller). Also if you look at the different Stands for the Characters, there will be different colors for the level, you can transport to different worlds by pressing A button (Button. One) while looking at the stand for the character.
In this world, you can hit the mummies with your sword on your hand. Also you can teleport in this world as well. While seeing the blue circle, you can teleport to the spot by pressing the A button (Button. One) on the Oculus Controller (Right Controller). In order to go back to the museum, you can hit the Triple Line button on the Oculus Controller (Left Controller), or you can find the treasure chest on the map by teleporting around and look at the treasure chest (which will show up a green circle) and pressing the A button (Button.One).
In this world, you are on top of a tower, but can not teleport around. You will notice that you have a bow on the left hand and an arrow on the right hand. You can attach the arrow on the Bow by putting your controllers close together and, press and hold the Axis1D.SecondaryIndexTrigger (Right Controller). While holding the Axis1D.SecondaryIndexTrigger (Right Controller) you can pull the arrow back and to release the arrow, just release the trigger of the right controller. In this one, you have infinite amount of arrrows and just hit the targets. You don’t have to hit all the targets, mind you. In order to go back to the museum, you can hit the Triple Line button on the Oculus Controller (Left Controller).
In this world, you can grab ninja stars from the ground and hit the targets that are close to them. To pick them up, place your controller close to the ninja star, and hold down the PrimaryHandTrigger (Left Controller) or SecondaryHandTrigger( Right Controller) to hold it in your hand. To let them go, just release the PrimaryHandTrigger (Left Controller) or SecondaryHandTrigger( Right Controller) depending on which hand you use to pick it up. Also there are targets close to the red temple buildings, they are not affected by the stars, but you can hit them with your virtual hands by getting close to them and punch them. In order to go back to the museum, you can hit the Triple Line button on the Oculus Controller (Left Controller).
