Setting byte datarefs doesn't work on Windows

Running set sim/aircraft/view/acf_descrip:string "This is an example" doesn't seem to work on telnet via Windows, as per the README - instead X-Plane crashes to desktop. I am able to read the value with sub sim/aircraft/view/acf_descrip:string, however.
