gitbrowser does not show up in plugin manager

I have built gitbrowser on Kubuntu 18.04 according to the instructions but it does not show up in the plugin manager in Geany.

The file "gitbrowser.so" is copied to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/geany/gitbrowser.so

Could it be that Geany is built with gtk3.0 now instead of gtk2.0 starting from Ubuntu 18.04 ?
