How do we do a meaning preserving source-to-source transform of code so that it evades the regexp guards needed to protect the "eight magic lines of code" or their modern equivalent?

I think the problem is a general virtualization one by code transforms. In general code performing virtualization can replace the intrinsics as necessary to maintain the guest's illusions. The problem that Mark is describing in this case, from what I understand, is that the transformed code would need some way to "register" that a given object is a virtualized template object, in a way that doesn't let the original code claim the same. Given that the "8 magic lines" at the center of the ses-shim are centered around eval, there may be solutions, but they seem complex at first glance.
