Add Quarto documents to Markdown processing

RStudio has a new Markdown-adjacent thing called Quarto (.qmd) that uses Markdown for its plan text markup. Can this extension be added to the Markdown wrapping section?

Does anyone know which part of the code should I modify to make it treat .qmd as Markdown? I tried to modify the source but not successfully.
