I can think about some this that the user might customize.

Here is my not finalized list:

• default rule set
• current smart quote state (active or not)
• shortcut bindings (?)
• custom smart quote rule delimiters (?)

Maybe instead of a setting for the default rule set and default SQ state, maybe those parameters being persistent (as they were left off) throughout different Thunderbird sessions, would be enough? Ideally stored in a way, that is outside of CCleaner's and TB's own "delete personal data" cleaning sectors.

And offering custom keyboard shortcuts besides just "open popup" and "de-/activate SQ", is a no-brainer, however wouldn't it be easier to "outsource" this as well to the TB "keyboard command" menu? Okay, nevermind, I just checked and saw that all TB commandeered shortcuts must start with CTRL or ALT, so a modfication of the simple "1", "2", "3", "a" commands can only be achieved through a dedicated SQ settings menu.

As a mail-extension we do not have a lot of choices to store settings. I would go with the storage-api. I actually don't how they are affected by CCleaner and TB's cleaning.
