pip install selectinf failing

When trying to install the package via pip

pip install selectinf

I see the error has inconsistent version: filename has '0.1.3', but metadata has 0+unknown

It works when changing the command to pip install selectinf --use-deprecated=legacy-resolver but this will be removed from pip in the future. Is it possible to update the metadata?

@jonathan-taylor Thank you, after spending much time looking into it, I realized that my Python version and linux x64 isn't supported, when I browse the pip details for selectinf. Could you please release x64 linux versions ("manylinux1_x86_64.whl") for Python 3.7 and/or 3.8? I also need the same x64 linux Python 3.7/3.8 to install the regreg dependency.

I cannot downgrade to Python 3.6, which has a "manylinux1_x86_64.whl" version, because support for 3.6 is ending next year.

@sharonchoong I had the same problem. This worked for me:

• install pyenv, which lets you manage multiple versions of python simultaneously
• using pyenv install some version of python3.6, say python 3.6.11, as an alternate version of python.
• clone selectinf
• install a virtualenv in your selectinf directory
• activate the virtualenv and run pyenv local 3.6.11. this will not affect your global python but will simply be used for running selectinf.
• pip install selectinf. Success.
