documentation: maptools, plot bug

[carbonmetrics]

the documentation refers to maptools but this library has been removed from CRAN.
so, this doesn't work anymore:

library(maptools)
data(wrld_simpl)

apart from this, the line plot(ds, main='Geographic Distance') produces error:

Error in graphics::par(plt = bigplot) : 
  invalid value specified for graphical parameter "plt"
