Making "Play random" compatible with external video players

I'm talking specifically about "Play random", not "Play one random". With external players, "Play random" results in only one video being played. When using the default Kodi's player, this continuously plays random episodes from a selected TV show.

Is there anything that can be done to enable this continuous playback for external players? Support for "Play next" or "Play previous" buttons would be very useful as well.

I've just noticed that Kodi itself doesn't support playlists in combination with external video players therefore I don't expect a solution here but any thoughts regarding this is still welcome :-)
