At one point I had experimental dia support that I think was broken in various ways. I also added graphviz support, but it has some limitations that make it not great. It is good if you want a map that you generate from a script though.

My newest idea is to see if we can support https://draw.io to make the charts.

Using the extra fields in the drawing, I want to be able to support different backends for data. So that rather than running a poller we could ask Opennms for the correct data, or solarwinds, etc.

We would also need to update it so that we could point to /graph/whatever to link charts and metrics.

I've removed the "Dia" label since I'm not doing that anymore. Graphviz in JS would also be nice but there isn't a good library for it. All of this ties in with editable maps which is still impossible right now.

drawio seems to be really promising. I can decode the document, edit the XML, then display it with their viewer.js renderer.

The viewer is a little strange. It presents a "zoom" layer around the doc. The workaround for this is if we can get the viewer to output SVG this goes away (example from the builtin editor). I'd rather not force this step on the user, but even if it's required it's still more user friendly than xfig.

There are a couple of extra possibilities with this. We might be able to embed things in such a way that the user doesn't need to save the drawing to their PC, they just open it in the drawio editor, which then gets passed back to the cibh page to store it/parse it/etc.

Plan:

• build a dev box?
• create a usage2dio that will parse the map files and export them appropriately
• figure out how to link to draw.io with an "edit" button for the source page
• decide how the user will save the drawing back to cibh and add support for it
