Hi,

first of all: THANK YOU for this great tool, entirely created for console usage and developed in Python!!!

As I also come from VisiData, I was wondering if there was a possibility to get closer to VisiData's vim key bindings. Meaning,

• standard usage of h, j, k, l for navigation within the current view
• multi-mode input (it is kind of realized in a different way, using popup windows as insert-mode)
• multi-key (sequenced) hotkeys to facilitate e.g. dd for deleting a line (rather than heavy control key use)

Is something like this planned? Or would there be at least interest in such more flexible hotkey usage so that pull requests for this were welcome?

Apologies for the late reply — I’m not sure why I missed this issue (and a few others), as I didn’t receive any email notifications.

I did intentionally follow VisiData’s keybinding philosophy in some areas, though not all bindings are the same. In practice, I’ve found that certain VisiData keybindings aren’t very intuitive to me, especially multi-key sequences. I personally find those harder to remember.

One of the motivations for building this tool was to keep keybindings as simple as possible: mostly single-letter shortcuts with mnemonic meaning. For example, h hides a column, while H unhides it. This approach reduces reliance on complex key sequences and heavy modifier keys.

That said, I’m definitely open to discussion and ideas. If there’s interest in more flexible or alternative keybinding schemes, I’d be happy to consider proposals or review pull requests exploring that direction.
