Testing exceptions in JUnit can be done via @Rule

The advantage of the @Rule annotation (over the expected attribute on the @Test annotation) is that the former gives a richer API allowing you to expect more than just the class name. You can use the rule to expect a message on the exception, to expect a cause, you can use Matchers, etc.

I've just pushed an update to cover this.

The original text did briefly mention the exception Rule, but with a note that it might not work with custom runners.

I've just tried it with a couple of common ones (Mockito and Theories), and it worked correctly with both.

Not sure if this is dated information, if it was never true, or if there are some common runners for which it is true so I've removed that text for now.
