Hi folks,
in pipeline run we are getting strange error since few days:

ERROR: Signature Update failed with hr=0x800704e8
CmdTool: Failed with hr = 0x800704e8. Check C:\Users\VSSADM~1\AppData\Local\Temp\MpCmdRun.log for more information

This is also affecting our pipelines too. It appears the Anti-Malware tool is having problems updating its signature file - this causes the tool to fail with the error above. We believe this started happening for us yesterday as our pipelines were running fine the day before

Agreeing with @adshead that it started yesterday. We get the issue in our Azure Pipelines when using the windows-2022 / windows-latest agents, but when using the windows-2025 agents the issue does not occur.

In the beginning of April we experienced the same issue, where it lasted a few days after which it passed magically.

We've noticed the same issue with our self hosted windows server 2022 agents

Pure speculation but could it be a bad signature update that needs culling from the update feed?

The issue seems to have passed since yesterday afternoon/evening European time.
