Hello I was curious if there was a 1D example of this being used for something like a non-parametric smoother for scatter plot data.

Hi,
actually I'm not sure.
I only used this for one project of mine and not for much else.
I'd just try it out and verify against the true distribution in simulations and see if that is a good solution for the application you have.
