bug in lightfm's build system

lightfm==1.17 has a broken setup.py that tries to access LIGHTFM_SETUP attribute on a dict object

I was having the same error and tried a lot of things, i don't understand the problem, but it will work if you are using pip<=25.2. In pip 25.3 the problem starts.

It must be something about pep517:
DEPRECATION: Building 'lightfm' using the legacy setup.py bdist_wheel mechanism, which will be removed in a future version. pip 25.3 will enforce this behaviour change. A possible replacement is to use the standardized build interface by setting the --use-pep517 option, (possibly combined with --no-build-isolation), or adding a pyproject.toml file to the source tree of 'lightfm'.
