Check the MAILTO field

I am running CRON on Debian 9 machine with Vixie CRON.
The MAILTO field cannot have space between commas. E.g, this is not legal:
MAILTO="abc@xyz.com, pqr@xyz.com"
but removing the comma between the two will make it legal:
MAILTO="abc@xyz.com,pqr@xyz.com"

Can a warning be added that checks for this case.
