A field to indicate project activity?

I was wondering if it might be a good idea to add a field that tracks whether a project seems to be active or not?

For instance I was bummed to see that Brat’s homepage seems to be down.

In a fancy scenario, I could imagine writing a script to ping project urls to update such a field automatically, but it could be managed more simply through Github.

That's a good idea! I wondered whether it'd be good to include some kind of indicator of active development or active use previously, but it seemed hard to implement in a way that would make it cheap to implement, cheap to maintain, and useful... Let's keep thinking though, maybe there's something.
