New Onboarding Feedback #116

So I went through the new on boarding with the bubbles.

I like the bubbles, and I quite like the addition of a dedicated privacy overview. I think that is a great addition. The copy and flow felt pretty good aside from when I had to go to the top menu for the quick action task. That didn't feel quite so good to me. I know you're still working on that. From where I'm sitting it looks and functions exactly like it did in the first version I ever tested, which we've since discussed and refined so I don't know if that's expected or if there are some change under the hood, but in practice it looked, functioned, and felt the same.

There are some areas I would maybe look into changing/trying some stuff.

  1. I would get rid of the typing effect as Sho suggested. I don't think it's adding a ton and it can be a little distracting. However, I think it could be interesting if the messages arrived with a slight delay between them. So a similar intent, but a different execution of it. Instead of the text typing out, the messages arrive slightly staggered to appear more human. This could work well for the next suggestion perhaps.

  2. I’m not sure if you’ve had a chance to review the Figma UI wireframes lately, but in the new onboarding ones (keep in mind the order/copy etc, is all in flux, I'm just exploring stuff on that front to see what's what), I’ve divided the large sections into smaller, more manageable messages. Each section is broken down into bite-sized pieces that guide you through the content. I’m curious to know your thoughts on that approach.

  3. I was thinking, maybe if it felt a bit conversational, that could be really nice. You can get a sense of what I'm thinking of from the new onboarding frames. I might have gotten a little carried away with the hype in the copy initially, haha. I envisioned a friendly and lightweight approach, something that feels more like a natural conversation and ideally a little bit less like a series of instructions (although they still are absolutely instructions at the end of the day).

  4. I would conclude the onboarding process with a captivating message/display that ignites a sense of excitement within the user, an which summarizes the vast possibilities that Typeahead offers. Figuring out the optimal sequence of information, tone, and copy for the onboarding process is a challenging task and one that I think we will have to work on and refine some more as we go along.

  5. I think it would be beneficial to align the visual design of the onboarding window with the summonable app window. Specifically, incorporating the same background blur instead of having it completely opaque would create a more cohesive feel. Currently, the onboarding window seems somewhat disconnected from the design of the summoned chat window. For my ui tests I literally just used the app window for onboarding. I'm not suggesting we do that, unless you think that's a good idea, it was just a quick way to prototype the various directions and hone in the one which I currently have explored a bit more in depth

Also I tested smart copy and the quick action thing (used the grammarly one from on boarding) on all these sentences. The responses are surprisingly good. It misses words here and there, but it's really good at fleshing out what you were trying to say, and quite eloquently. You can then pop it back in and edit it, add/delete stuff, rearrange it etc. I mean it works and well at that. Certainly quite useful.
