Very blurry background

This problem occurs if JWM scales an image down to fit the screen. Results in a very blurry wallpaper.
Interesting, a smaller image scaled up looks good.

I tested an image that is exactly the same size as the screen, so JWM can use it as-is, and it looks good.
Something is amiss with how JWM reduces the size of an image.
We are mostly using jpegs.
