Description
In Reaper, if one wants their Program (For example, "BRYCK-BEATS-1") to be Program 1 of 4, it will not persist as the default after saving in Reaper.
For example, "NewPgm-A" will default to Program 1. BRYCK-BEATS-1 for example, will default to Program 2.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Operating system: MacOS Monterey 12.4, Logic Pro X 10.7.9, Reaper v7.16 - May 2024
VMPC2000XL version: VMPC2000XL v0.9.0.18, Built: Sun, 25 Jan 2026 10:48:07, Started: Sun Jan 25 15:39:24 2026
Steps to reproduce:
-
Launch Logic Pro X 10.7.9, and rewire Reaper v7.16.
-
I load a Reaper sequence with VMPC2000XL v0.9.0.18. N.B. I have a template that uses VMPC2000XL as a multi-out drum machine. Also, I manually replaced the previous version (Candidate 16) in Reaper, with the new version (Candidate 18) and performed a clean load of .PGM and .ALL files into VMPC2000XL (Candidate 18.) I reset the Stereo out configurations (turned down the volumes in PAD banks A,B,C,D), selected MPD216 as the preferred PAD layout, and pressed Play.
-
I noticed "NewPgm-A" is the default program. I loaded "BRYCK-BEATS-1"; it loaded at Pgm-2 of 4. I deleted, "NewPgm-A", and any programs in 2-4.
-
I go to VMPC2000XL > Main Screen > SHIFT Program > Selected DRUM Program 1 > (after deletions) NewPgm: BRYCK-BEATS-1. (The only one present.)
-
I pressed PLAY > Sequences play perfectly.
-
I save Reaper file state with VMPC2000XL v0.9.0.18; with NewPgm: BRYCK-BEATS-1 as Program 1. No other programs (2-4) are present.
-
I close Reaper. I close Logic Pro X.
-
I reopen Logic Pro X. I reopen (via Rewire) Reaper, with file containing VMPC2000XL v0.9.0.18.
-
I notice on VMPC2000XL Main Screen that S: DRUM1: Off: NewPgm-A is the Program loaded.
-
I go to VMPC2000XL > Main Screen > SHIFT Program > Selected DRUM Program 1 >; NewPgm-A is the Program loaded. > I scroll to Program 2 > BRYCK-BEATS-1 is visible.
-
I select BRYCK-BEATS-1 instead of NewPgm-A.
-
I press PLAY. No sound although the PADS are flashing showing the sequence is active.
-
I turn the REC GAIN and VOLUME knobs, but still no sound.
-
I close everything without saving and perform processes 1-13 again. N.B. Initially prior to all this I did SAVE the configuration in Reaper so that I could check if NewPgm-A would be gone, and that BRYCK-BEATS-1 would remain as default for Program 1.
-
Once Logic Pro X and Reaper are loaded, I load the Reaper file with VPMC2000XL v0.9.0.18.
-
I notice (again) on VMPC2000XL Main Screen that S: DRUM1: Off: NewPgm-A is the Program loaded. (See step 9.)
-
I go to VMPC2000XL > Main Screen > SHIFT Program > Selected DRUM Program 1 >; NewPgm-A is the Program loaded. > I scroll to Program 2 > BRYCK-BEATS-1 is visible. (See step 10.)
-
I select BRYCK-BEATS-1 instead of NewPgm-A. (See step 11.)
-
I press PLAY. Sound is playing and PADS are flashing showing the sequence is active.
Was this the default nature of the Akai MPC2000XL? I can confirm in Reaper, Candidate 16 persisted not only the current sequence (In my case Sequence 08 (Seq-08) instead of defaulting to Sequence 1 (Seq-01) in Candidate 18; but it also persisted the Pgm as well.
If there is any clarifications needed for the information above, let me know. Thank you.
