Curriculum is not compatible with Instagram API's sandbox mode

Not sure exactly when this change happened, but it seems like they have recently implemented something called "Sandbox Mode" on their API calls that makes your app go through a review process before you can access the whole API. One of the disabled features is the ability to search public content, which seems essential for the project to work.

I think this might not be a blocker as the students can at least use the app in sandbox mode for testing:

See the "Login Permissions" section on that site: "Apps in sandbox can use any of the login permissions available. This will allow you to generate access tokens that have any of the scopes required to test the behavior of the API endpoints."

Looking further into this, it also says "Data is restricted to sandbox users and the 20 most recent media from each sandbox user", which seems to be the bigger problem. Each user can be in up to 5 sandboxes. We are currently toying with the idea of creating 5 apps for our 25 students, letting everyone join each of them. Then 5 students have to share an app (and its rate 500 / hour rate limits), but every app has access to images from 25 people which might be good enough.
Very dependent though on having students with tagged content on instagram, so perhaps we should move on to giphy instead...

Re. the first point, I think you're right that its possible, but its a very involved & poorly documented process to get a working key to begin with. i think i managed to get the endpoint in the curriculum to work after at least 2 API calls swapping around auth keys w a ton of params (ie outside the scope of our students). The 5 apps between 25 students seems ok as a solution too.

Our class moved on to Giphy and we're just about to wrap it up. I'd like to have another API that they can chomp their teeth on though, so it'd be great if we could either come up for a solution for this or change out the API. I could easily see this getting swapped out with Twitter -- instead of having the site be a search for photos, it could be tweets.
