Critical vulnerability in go: CVE-2025-22871

Please update go to fix CVE-2025-22871. Go 1.22 is no longer supported, so you need to pick 1.23 or 1.24.

Opened PR #562 for this. This updates directly to 1.24, but everything compiles so I believe it should be ok.
