Question on how ImmichFrame pulls the album info for a photo

Hey there. I have an odd request. I just recently got ImmichFrame and its been great. It has actually given me ideas for how another app I use, ImmichTV (android app) could use things like what you have made, specifically with how the album is displayed for immichs when on a 'random' mode. The dev for ImmichTV, when things are set to Random for the screensaver, cannot discern the album since the picture may be on multiple albums. It seems that this does work in ImmichFrame though.

I know its maybe an odd request but do you mind shedding any light on you do this? I have a post on his git if you wanted to check it out giejay/Immich-Android-TV#144

I really appreciate it. Hopefully this isnt breaking some sort or dev etiquette but figured it would help improve the other app.

I’ll have to take a look later, but you know ImmichFrame Android app has a screensaver too, right?

I dont think it does videos/sound though right? I use AndroidTV on my Shield and it has a lot of controls to select the album or person to view via my remote. ImmichFrame is perfect for my Frameo.

Thanks. So I guess where the disconnect might be. In ImmichTV, if showing a particular album, the album title shows. I assume that dev is using this same api. Where it doesnt work is when I use the 'random' feature which will show any and all images. In this case, because the image can belong to multiple albums it doesnt know how to discern. Are you doing something different to first identify the album the particular image is in? Like polling each album, making a list, and then displaying a specific image from a specific album? Hopefully what im saying makes sense. Thanks again man!

Some API-Endpoints deliver data like people, albums etc. some don't. It is very inconsistent. Let's make an example:

Let's say we have two image sources:

• the memory endpoint (for assets on this day x years ago)
• the albums endpoint (you have configured that you want to have all images of album x)

The memory endpoint does not return data such as people and albums, in that case we check that and requery the /api/get-album-info endpoint to load that data. In case of the /api/albums endpoint, the data is returned, and we do not need to refetch that data.

(this was just an example, I don't remember what endpoint does return data and what other endpoint does)

In reviewing what the other dev it was this. Does this line up?

From immich tv dev:
“I'm using the search/metadata and search/random endpoints, e.g. https://immich.app/docs/api/search-assets.

I don't see how I could fetch the album information per asset using this endpoint"

The endpoint https://immich.app/docs/api/get-all-albums has an optional parameter assetId that will return the data for that asset.
