is there any way I can get this going for the latest raspbian kernels? or instructions of how to compiled this from source?

I stopped using those rtl wifi dongles because they did not like my router.
I tried one recently on my Desktop and it did not work at all, so I could
not say if it would work with Raspbian.

The short answer is that I don`t know, but the rtl8192cu driver in recent
kernels should work. The one bug that I found was fixed in the Linux
kernel at about the same time that I found it.

I see that I did not give good instructions for building your own kernels.
You need to reverse ONE patch that is used to swap the drivers in the
kernel.

It is annoying that they still apply this to every kernel, but there are
reasons. For 3.12 it seems to be this one:
