Getting "Conn failed (0)" in Garmin widget when there's no activity running

This started happening with the latest update of the Android app (Version 16). I have the widget installed on an Garmin Edge 1030 Plus. I have the GPX/FIT Exporter app open on my phone (Pixel 5a) with a directory of GPX files selected. Here's what happens when I open the widget and select the "gexporter/android" option:

• When I have an activity running (i.e. not paused) it successfully connects to my phone and shows the list of GPX files
• When I have an activity on pause or when I don't have an activity running at all, I get an "Access failed - Conn failed (0)" error

I didn't have this issue with the previous version of the Android app.
