Crate name is confusing

I've found this project through https://github.com/rust-embedded/awesome-embedded-rust
"commitment-issues Compile git metadata into your binary"

When I've read that I've thought that it's about embedding information things like issue tracking/changelogs etc.

While current name does sound cool I think community would benefit if the name gave a better idea of what this crate does.

This is a very cool project! Thanks for making is open source!

I'll need to have a think about this - I will admit I am quite fond of the name, but I see your point. I'll see if I can come up with something more descriptive.
If you have any ideas feel free to suggest them. Bonus points if it's a play on words! Naming stuff is hard!

I'm not great at naming stuff unfortunately. I can only suggest boring but practical names:

• "embed-git-metadata"
• "embed-metadata" - This would fit only if the crate would go beyond embedding git metadata. It would be great if it could embed sbom (software bill of materials) and licenses information based on cargo/cargo deny.
• "embed-metadata-in-binary" - no fluff, "Does what it says on the tin." ;)

I'd avoid using "embedded" word as it would match against "-embedded". I Think embed is good through.

If I get any better ideas I'll post them here but don't get your hopes up. Criticizing is way easier. ;)

Thanks, they're good suggestions! I'm definitely not ruling out adding other types of metadata like sbom etc, but I think that would definitely come after making the metadata block configurable so people can opt into the data they want to embed.
