Link tag in markdown table gets spaces replaced by NUL characters

Reformatting the code below (with pre-release 17.9) inserts a "NUL" (000 character) between "link" and "a":

/**
 * | x | y |
 * | -- | -- |
 * | {@link a} | |
 */

This may not be visible depending on your whitespace settings. I'm not sure what the exact trigger is, this is the simplest example I could come up with quickly. (The issue predates this fork; I originally found it with the older rewrap and tried this one to see if it had been fixed.)
