How do I set/decrease width of very wide columns?

Very wide columns make viewing tables impossible.
I see that org mode tables has an option to set width like <10> before a table cell.
Is any such method available?

@kalyan860 No such method is available as of now. Can you share screenshot / links / images to this so I can see exactly what it looks like ?

The entire formatting of an org table is present as text within the document itself. So if we want to shorten a column to say 15 width (in characters) , we make an extra empty row above the column and in the cell directly above the column we write <15>. And then when do Ctrl + Tab, the column view shortens to 15 character wide. This can toggled. Here is the screenshot. [image: image.png]

Oh I copy pasted the text below from an org file. [image: image.png] This time I copy pasted a screenshot from within emacs. If this image is not visible, please see link below. https://orgmode.org/manual/Column-Width-and-Alignment.html It is the second image on the link above. Also please consider the option to make/generate a blank table when number of rows and columns are given i.e the function should take input of rows number and column number and then draw out a blank table on the screen. And a quick shortcut to quickly sum all the columns above would be great.( Though I could write a vim user created command myself for this ). This setup would replace many of the uses of Excel where spreadsheets are not large and just making and analysing a table quickly is required. I use vim(neovim) a lot and if it could do some table computations, i don't have to move to excel every now and then.

@kalyan860 Is this truncating the column text or if you increase the width you'll see more of the content in the column ?

There is no data loss here . When you specify the width above the column with and then press Control plus tab, the view shows only number of characters. If you press Control plus tab again, you can see the whole column. Similar to how you can shrink and expand column width in Excel.

@kalyan860 ok, thanks, I think that's a bit tricky to do in vim, but will add that to my todo list.
