it seems there is no activity going on this project and all the focus is on buildah now. Is build still maintained or should it be archived to make it clear for anyone getting here?

As you can see in the readme, this project is currently unmaintained. I'd have no problem with archiving it.

We've ceased development of the main rkt project, see rkt/rkt#4024.
I'm doing a pass on all related repositories, which include this one. Thus marking as archived now.
