Spigot 1.9 Incompatibility

RealMail is not compatible with Spigot 1.9.

Cause
While updating Spigot to 1.9, the EditBookEvent which is fundamental to the plugin was temporarily removed as a workaround to release 1.9 faster. However, it has still not been added back and thus RealMail is still not compatible with 1.9. When the event is readded, RealMail should start to function again and not even require a new version. This is only marked as a minor priority on Spigot's JIRA bug tracker, so if you'd like to get the event added back sooner, you can vote for it (issue SPIGOT-1550).

Plan
Maybe try to create a workaround using ProtocolLib, but most likely just wait for Spigot to fix the bug. Until then, let everyone know that the plugin currently only functions in 1.8.
