Background
Currently, player can only move in one speed, without any change, only either move or stop. However, if the map is going to be big, sprinting would be helpful for world navigation and journey.
Details
When holding Ctrl (default key), the player can sprint to any direction according to movement direction controls, consuming the sprinting stamina. There will be a bar for the sprinting stamina, allowing the player to sprint for certain duration. This part would be handled in the coming new stamina system.
Anyway, the speed would not be too fast. According to Minecraft's implementation, it would like be about 1.2 to 1.25 times the original speed (or little bit higher). The stamina refilling would be fast, and would be enough for some couples of seconds.
