Keep the module in commit parity with 7.x

@klonos Is this issue still relevant? I noticed that the Backdrop version of the module included additional commits up to Drupal module version 7.x-3.27 after you created this issue.

I just submitted Issue #12 (with PR) to get the module up to date with version 7.x-3.29.

Note that I also submitted Issue #8 (with PR) to remove any dependency on the deprecated Libraries module.
