Describe the bug

Since update 1.8.8 with my triple monitor setup when tabbing out of a full screen application, the bar on the main monitor visually disappears but the desktop and maximized windows still respect its bounds, exactly opposite of the previous issue i raised in #691

Reloading YASB makes it appear again, but every time i tab back in and out, it briefly appears before completely disappearing again once the animation is finished.

Before this update the bar would stay visually but its bounds got ignored by desktop icons and maximized windows.

This appears to be a regression introduced in v1.8.8 while fixing your previous issue #691. The fix for #691 (where YASB's bounds were ignored after explorer restart/resolution changes) seems to have caused the opposite problem - now the bar visually disappears but its bounds are still respected.

What's happening:

• The bar visually disappears on the main monitor when tabbing out of fullscreen games
• Desktop icons and maximized windows still respect the bar's bounds (correct behavior)
• Reloading YASB temporarily restores visibility
• The bar briefly appears before disappearing again after tabbing in/out

This is likely related to:

• The AppBar registration changes made in v1.8.8 to fix #691
• Display state changes when switching between fullscreen applications
• The windows_app_bar: true setting and how Windows handles the AppBar visibility during resolution/display mode changes

This will need investigation from the maintainer (@amnweb) to determine why the bar's visibility is being affected while its work area reservation is correctly maintained. The fix in v1.8.8 resolved the bounds issue but may have introduced a visibility problem during display state transitions.

Temporary workaround: As you noted, reloading YASB restores visibility until the next tab-in/out cycle.

OK, please tell me step by step how I can reproduce this issue and show me your window flags and bar position from the config.

the issue is related to hide_on_fullscreen: true in 1.8.8

these are all my window flags and the position:
window_flags: always_on_top: true windows_app_bar: true hide_on_fullscreen: true

alignment: position: "top" center: false

not sure if it makes any difference but my windows taskbar is set to autohide.

just to be clear, I've tested it multiple times and the issue does not happen on 1.8.7 at all and started with 1.8.8.

when hide_on_fullscreen is set to true the bar randomly disappears on some window related action which can be reproduced by doing various things.

cause 1:

• start rocket league in fullscreen mode
• tab out
• tab in
• tab out
  (usually happens on the second tab out cycle and persists forever)

cause 2:

• install raycast
• launch any application using raycast (doesnt have to be a full screen one)
• close or minimize that application
  (just launching any application through raycast also causes the animation of the bar to restart)

those are the two ways I've got it to reliably break.
in cause 1 I've quit raycast to make sure its not interfering.

Here is the difference between 1.8.7 and 1.8.8.

In 1.8.7 and older versions of YABS, we had our own function where we checked all opened apps and polled every 500 ms, which is not a big deal, but it sometimes uses extra CPU for no reason, especially when you do not have any apps opened. This timer runs all the time.

In version 1.8.8, I removed this timer, and now YABS listens to Windows. When Windows tells YABS that there is a fullscreen app and the bar should be hidden, YABS does that. So there is no timer and no extra CPU cost, since everything is controlled by Windows.

However, there are some apps that have hidden fullscreen windows on your desktop that you cannot see, like NVIDIA apps. These apps also trigger fullscreen events, but in that case we have a filter to block all of these apps.

Anyway, until I find the correct way to reproduce the same behavior on my side, I am not sure I can help you with this issue. Maybe you have some apps that work in the background and are not related to Raycast, or maybe some extensions installed for Raycast, or maybe I am doing something wrong and cannot reproduce the same behavior ?
