Installation questions

I'd like to give ppmap a shot. Some questions:

• is ifort required or might gfortran be usable?
• What OS are the compiled modules distributed with this repository intended for?

My first attempt resulted in:

try out my "gfortran" branch in https://github.com/teuben/ppmap
and use
sh premap_compile_gfortran
sh ppmap_compile_gfortran

the issue was really the intel compiler dependant mod file (they are gzip files!!), and if you force making one via your compiler,it seems to work. Haven't tried running an example.
