Question regarding networksetup vs airport command - @arubdesu

It's using networksetup, not /Sys/Lib/.../airport to actually set it, right?
I noticed it refers to the network as Open in the Preferred Networks list, whereas on at least 10.6+ "networksetup -setairportnetwork en0 SSID PSK" works from any user and connects immediately as long as airport is active/you know the hdwe port/and it's powered on.

It depends on the os your using, I use airport as Jamf was , but then only to dynamically connect to the network. That functionality was kind of the suck so I think I disabled it in 10.5

As you can see from the links above, its mostly networketup. honestly I am not sure I completely understand your question as I don't remember it ever setting the network as type open. Make sure your using a config file close to the one posted in this bug report: #4
