window rule to skip opening a view

Describe the feature

It would be nice to have a window rule that lets us bypass opening a view (program?)
Most compositors call it "kill" or similar.

Use case / Example

rule_name = on event if criteria then kill
  - or maybe -
rule_name = on event if criteria then ignore

Additional context

Pardon me if this is a duplicate issue, but simple searches with "rule" "kill" "view" "window" in the issues gave me no results

Hi, you could try an IPC script instead of window-rules. Here is a simple example:

from wayfire import WayfireSocket

s = WayfireSocket()
s.watch(['view-mapped']) # view-mapped is emitted for every new view

while True:
    ev = s.read_next_event()
    view = ev['view']
    print(view) # check available properties here, so that you can match only the view you want, then:
    s.close_view(view['id'])

Note that this script closes EVERY window that you open, you will need to add an if to close only views you want to close.

Also make sure to enable the ipc and ipc-rules plugins and to restart Wayfire. Also pip install wayfire for the python IPC bindings that this script uses.
