Site search feedback on UI for clearing filters

Currently, if you’ve applied filters and then search for a new term, the previous filters are retained

“Clear filters” button is currently in the search bar. There is also a “Clear filters” button on the left panel. Both of these are very easy to miss and not where a user will look for them

Perhaps it is better to return more than less (ie, remove previously applied filters automatically when the user searches for a new term)

We should also use the vectorBase model, which puts more information into the heading of the site search results (For ex: “All results matching “weight”, filtered by “XX”)

We can also put the clear filters button next to the heading for the site search results

We can consider adding chips into the search bar (document filter chip, fields matched chip…)

I am going to begin by moving the "Clear filters" button in the search box to the left.

Please remove "Clear filters" button to the left of the search box. Outreach team feels this will be confusing to users.

Instead, clear filters by default when a new term is entered into the search box.

Filters can still be cleared by using this link. (We will discuss with UX team on how we can perhaps do away with this link altogether in future releases and replace with a new way of filtering search result types.)

This is a pretty big UX change. This interface has been in use on genomic sites for a number years, now. At the very least, we would need to get larger consensus to make these changes, as they will impact users of genomic sites.
