Please make a new release

Linux distros that have switched to GCC 15 see that the latest remake release fails to build. But the build failure is fixed in the development branch, so please make a new release for your users/downstreams.

If you are a manager of a distribution that has switched to GCC 15 and require a new remake release, please respond with your name and the distribution you manage.

When there is a reasonable number of distributions listed that need this, I'll make sure to reserve some time to do this.

Alternatively, if someone supports this project at the level of $200 or more, one time donation is okay, and it doesn't have to be a single person, then I'll also try to schedule some time to get this chore done.

This seems like an odd request to me. Release managers don't care about leaf packages like remake -- if it doesn't build, it simply won't be available to end users. remake is hardly an "important" or "core" package in this sense; it won't block a distro release.

I am the package maintainer of remake in NixOS; there should be no need for any "higher ups".

Define "reasonable number" and "need"? Ubuntu has already patched remake to keep it building. Isn't that enough of a signal that the previous release is too old and we need a new one?

As time goes by you'll see that distros either patch or drop the package. Noone will "halt development" and add their name to a list here saying "we cannot continue without this". If you wait with the release until all have migrated to gcc 15, then it's too late; the distros must either have patched it themself (duplicate effort) or dropped the package (hurts end users).

The point here is that healthy upstreams make releases and that maintenance shouldn't fall on downstreams.

(Btw, unless this thread is taking a turn for the better, I'm considering dropping the package from nixpkgs.)

How much time does creating a release take?

More time than the amount of time you'd get from a plumber or a salaried programmer for $200.

Also, showing support for the project is doing a little more than simply underpaying the person who conceived, implemented, and maintained the project for decades gratis.
